At Needwood House, we are dedicated to providing our residents with a diverse range of activities, and a key component of this is organising day trips. These outings are not only enjoyable but also offer numerous therapeutic benefits for the people in our care. They bring excitement and joy, and significantly improve mood and overall mental health.
One of our regular destinations is the local park, but we also enjoy exploring parks further afield, such as our recent trip to Rugeley Park. Our residents loved spending time outdoors, surrounded by nature, and a walk around the park supports both their mental and physical well-being. Not only that, natural sunlight boosts vitamin D levels, which is essential for overall health and has a positive effect on mood.
We also took a trip to the local cinema recently. Watching a movie in a different environment provided a refreshing change from the usual setting, reducing feelings of confinement. Visiting new places offers cognitive stimulation and encourages our residents to think and engage with their surroundings.
A favourite destination among our residents is the local garden centre, where we all enjoy spending time at the aquarium, marvelling at the different fish.
Another memorable outing was our visit to Lichfield Cathedral. The impressive building provided an opportunity for reflection and relaxation, leaving the residents feeling serene and uplifted.
Rachel, our Registered Manager at Needwood House, emphasises the importance of these outings: “Day trips for patients with complex mental health issues are more than just recreational activities; they are a vital part of a comprehensive treatment plan. They offer myriad benefits that enhance mental, physical, and emotional well-being, contributing to improved quality of life and better overall health outcomes.”
These excursions are an integral part of our commitment to holistic care, ensuring our residents lead fulfilling and enriched lives.
