At Needwood House, we believe that offering a diverse range of activities is key to creating a vibrant and fulfilling environment for our residents. Our goal is to provide something for everyone, ensuring that each individual’s needs are met and their interests are engaged. From gentle exercise for the body to cognitive games like jigsaws for the mind, we aim to support the well-being of our residents in every way we can.
For many of our residents, engaging in mental activities like bingo and quizzes is just as important as physical exercise. These games provide excellent mental and physical stimulation, helping to keep the mind sharp. For some, they even ignite a playful sense of competition that fills the room with laughter and cheer, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.
We include these activities throughout our calendar and enjoy tailoring them to different themes to keep things engaging. Recently, we had a great time with some Halloween-themed quizzes, which brought a bit of spooky fun to the residents!
These types of activities have a number of benefits, including potentially slowing cognitive decline, improving memory, reducing stress, enhancing visual perception, and encouraging social interaction.
Puzzles, in particular, require residents to constantly scan for the correct shapes or colours, which can help enhance their visual perception skills. This can be especially beneficial for maintaining focus and coordination.
Rachel Ball, Manager at Needwood House, said: “We take pride in offering a variety of activities that support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our residents. Whether it’s the quiet satisfaction of completing a puzzle or the shared excitement of a bingo game, we know that these moments of engagement make a big difference in the lives of those we care for.”
