Meet our team: Deputy Manager Claire

Deputy Manager at Needwood House Claire has worked in care since the age of 18; she completed a health and social care course in college then worked in a school that specialises in autism for 18months before moving into a care home environment initially working in a home that specialises in young adults challenging behaviour. Clare is also a qualified Mental Health Nurse who joined the team at Needwood House 11 years ago.

Claire is extremely passionate about her work, she says, “when you are a nurse, you know that every day you will touch a life, or a life will touch yours.”
Claire continues,

“I really enjoy working in a complex environment, our home specialises in providing skilled, effective, holistic care to residents who have severe, challenging behaviours. As a team we nurture these behaviours, with love, with care, and with continuity. We work in a team that is so supportive of each other, it’s friendly and relaxed and it feels like we are a big family.”

Claire’s role is highly varied, she manages medications and if necessary, tends to any wounds, she liaises with external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to care plans. Claire says “my day to day varies considerably, from providing positive behaviour support to an agitated resident and supporting them through and helping achieve a sense of calm, to providing end of life care and allowing someone and their family the dignity and respect end of life deserves.
